The Crossing

In dreams
        I walk on water

Fingers outstretched
       To the edge of the world

For once, I emerge from the picture
       Frozen in yellows and reds

A tainted faith
       Leaves a stained-glass salvation

As trembling hands leave
       Cathedrals in their wake

The Artist

I saw the angel in the wood

But my hand slipped

Not once, but twice

And slashed a grin on that hallowed face

Glaring

In that fiendish light

He saw right through me

And my cathedrals

Through clenched teeth

He spat venom

Sweetness dissolved my tongue

How foolish was I

To think these trembling hands

Could save mankind
